What is the Fireside ESL Adventures all about?
The Fireside ESL Adventures (FESLA) program is designed to provide international youth an opportunity to engage in a unique English language adventure program. While visiting British Columbia's most beautiful outdoor, rural and urban locations, youth will work closely with English instructors and youth peers to improve their English.
Instead of learning in a traditional stationary classroom setting, FESLA youth travel and reside at a number of alternative learning settings such as provincial parks, youth hostels, and summer camps over a 21-day period.
Participants will explore some of Canada’s greatest outdoor settings, immerse themselves in Canadian culture, learn outdoor leadership skills and improve their English speaking abilities. By ensuring a maximum size of 15 campers, ESL youth will have more one-to-one time with instructors and fellow youth participants.
Fireside ESL Adventures Program Highlights:
- A minimum of 50 direct ESL instruction hours is a mandatory student expectation with a number of daily opportunities to access additional tutoring and one to one academic support
- Leadership and outdoor wilderness skills training by experienced instructors
- Hike the majestic Chief in Squamish, paddle the waters of Howe Sound, explore trails along the coast of the Pacific Ocean, and tour Vancouver and Whistler
- Receipt of an official letter of course completion, mailed directly to each youth camper's school
- T-shirt and letter of reference
- Meet youth from across the globe
What makes us different from other ESL youth programs?
Total Canadian Immersion – Fireside ESL Adventures gives international youth campers more access to Canada, Canadian youth and diverse cultures. FESLA is a comprehensive way for ESL youth to practice their English skills throughout the entirety of the program while being supported by teachers and peers.
Small Group and Relationship Focus – A small group experience provides a better learning environment through more direct access and one-to-one time with instructors and fellow youth participants. Our instructors will stay with the same group for the duration of the program, ensuring consistency and providing an opportunity for youth to develop lasting relationships.
Mobility – Our program is completely mobile with youth travelling to various locations and exploring the destinations they visit. Only a small portion of the learning occurs in a traditional classroom setting.
Innovative Experiential Educational Approach – Fireside ESL Adventures offers a completely educational and adventure-based program located in outdoor, rural and urban settings. We are purposely avoiding duplication with the mass-market ESL programs offered by our competitors.
Creative Toolbox Personal Touch – We take the time to build relationships with every parent and participant because personal connections are an integral component to our company’s foundation.
Professional Instructors – We hire qualified, enthusiastic instructors to teach and guide all our programs. Our skilled staff are dedicated to providing the best experience for youth that will be remembered for a lifetime. Our staff must have wilderness first aid and/or First Responder training, English-teaching ability, lifeguard certification and outdoor wilderness training. They must have cleared a criminal record check, possess post secondary education and have a valid driver's license.
Parental Access During Program – Our staff carry mobile phones and check in daily with our head office. We do our best to encourage our youth to contact their parents once they have adjusted to the program schedule.
We Are Innovative - There are no other programs that offers our unique ESL youth services. Our educational program is innovative, inclusive and interesting.
